Love, like sunlight
When you finally step into the light, still trembling from the dark.
What a beautiful and strange feeling it is to be loved after feeling like you’re not enough for so long.
To be known, after you felt like your words were never heard or important enough to be remembered. To trust after you’ve seen so many hurt, wounded people. To be taken care of, to become a child again. To be taken into consideration. To be someone’s eyes and sky. To be happy.
Stepping into the sun after being in the dark for so long.
At first, it hurts. The light almost feels violent against your eyes; you frown, wrinkle your face, trying to protect yourself from the intensity. For a moment, it burns. But then, the sun wraps around you, tender and patient. The warmth spreads : inch by inch, across your body, until it feels like being held. Like someone’s arms made of sunlight reminding you: you’re safe now.
And just like that, someone looks at you and sees you. Someone listens and remembers.
Being loved is not easy. It requires courage to stay when everything in you is trained to run. You start scanning for danger where there is none, dissecting every word, every silence, searching for the flaw that would prove this love isn’t real. It whispers that you belong to pain, that peace is suspicious, that happiness is a trap you’ll eventually pay for. The wall doesn’t want to fall.
You’re afraid : afraid to be hurt, betrayed and you’re certain that it will happen, because it always has. Your heart flinches at every tenderness, waiting for the moment it all collapses because safety feels too fragile, too impossible to trust.
It takes time to believe that you deserve to be loved. But when you finally stop fighting the light, everything shifts and you can finally experience the most beautiful feeling in the world. You realize that love is gentle, like a hand holding you when you’re shaking, reminding you that you were never broken. But love doesn’t just comfort you, it also confronts you to the parts of yourself you’ve tried to hide. It holds up a mirror and shows these parts. Then, it gives you the courage to trust your reflection again. It gives you confidence. It makes you believe that you are capable of everything, that you are the most extraordinary thing on this earth. It gives you wings, and still, it holds your hand while you learn how to fly.
